To establish a safe connection to your bank, Trustly normally prompts you to enter your online banking username and password. This authorizes us to process transactions you request. In some cases, we're unable to use the standard connection method and you are prompted to manually enter your information. This manual method is called Manual Electronic Check (MEC).
There are two specific instances where you may be asked to use MEC and manually enter your bank information:
- If the connection to your bank is unavailable when you attempt a transaction, you may be presented an option to enter your account information manually to proceed using MEC. This varies by merchant and may not be an option your merchant supports.
- Some connections require an account validation step where one or two small deposits are sent to your account for verification. This is known as Micro Challenge Deposits (MCD). This process uses MEC for these transactions and you are asked to enter your account information manually.
