Sports Betting Launches in Kansas
Thursday, September 1st, 2022 was a momentous day for the state of Kansas. Online sports betting officially went live! Trustly is proud to support our gaming operators during this launch; we began processing payments in the Sunflower State Thursday morning.
Kansas is the fourth state in 2022 to launch online sports betting following New York and Louisiana in January and Arkansas in February. The state launches come after the Supreme Court declared the Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act (PASPA) unconstitutional in 2018. Now, individual states have the right to regulate sports betting.
Kansas will be one of the quickest states to launch sports betting following legalization. The sports wagering bill SB 84 was initially approved by the House on April 4th, 2022. The bill received Senate approval on April 29th and was officially signed by Governor Laura Kelly on June 20.
“Legalizing sports betting is a common-sense solution that will keep Kansans’ money in Kansas,” said Governor Laura Kelly. “It’s one more way my Administration is working to make Kansas the most pro-business, pro-growth state in the country.”
